It's the end of the month and January is right around the corner. To welcome the New Year, you've meticulously listed your health and fitness resolutions. But keeping and fulfilling these resolutions can be a challenge. To help maintain your resolutions and achieve your health and fitness goals, here are a few tips to keep you engaged and motivated.
1. Clarity and Conviction
First off, you've got to want to be healthy and fit. Prioritizing your health and wellness is a must and it won't be easy. This is why you have to be clear on what you want and you have to have the conviction to stick to your fitness goals. Being wishy-washy isn't going to give you the 8-pack abs you've been dreaming of. Yes, some tough love is necessary to achieve your resolutions.
Now that we've got that out of the way, let's move on to the next tip.
2. Workout Buddy
We get it and we've been there. You may have a moment of weakness when all you want to do is watch Netflix and chill. To save you from yourself, enlist a workout buddy! What better way to keep you motivated than having someone to work out with. By enlisting a friend or a family member, you can encourage each other to keep your fitness goals and push you during those times when all you want to do is give up or give in to the call of the couch. Plus, not only are you accountable to your own fitness goals, but you're also holding your friend or family member accountable to their fitness goals. It's a win-win!
3. Track Your Progress
The journey to health and fitness can be a long one. If you've got big goals, it can be discouraging when you don't see results right away. To help keep you motivated, make sure to track your progress. It can be extremely rewarding to document and remember just how far you've come. Imagine if you started out wheezing while running for 5 minutes, then finally being able to run easily for 30 minutes without stopping—that's amazing progress that you need to keep track of!
4. Celebrate Wins
Now that you know how far you've come, celebrate your wins! Even if it's just a small milestone, rewarding yourself can incentivize you to work harder to achieve your goals. You could even reward yourself with a new workout outfit or treat yourself to a massage. And rewards don't have to be something you spend money on. For example, you could make time to visit your favourite place or treat yourself to an extra-long meditation session in your balcony. Whatever floats your boat, just make sure to celebrate your wins.
5. Mix It Up
Getting into the habit of working out can be tough, but if you've been working out 3 times a week for the past 3 months, it can get a little tiresome to be doing the same thing over and over again. If you're tired of your routine, then go ahead and mix it up. Adding sports to your routine can be a fun way to socialize, but also burn some calories. If you're constantly pumping iron or playing sports, you could add a yoga or pilates session to your routine. Variety can make your workout fun and enjoyable.

Remember that your health and fitness resolution is all about improving you. Do your best and avoid taking failures to heart if you have moments when you just want to give up.
